Heritage Baptist Church

We exist to glorify God

through experiencing Gospel-centered worship, encouraging Gospel-centered community, and engaging in Gospel-centered missions.

"And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers." Acts 2:42
  • In essential beliefs we have unity.
"There is one Body and one Spirit… one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, through all and in all." (Ephesians 4: 4-6)
  • In non-essential beliefs we have liberty.
"As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions…Who are you to pass judgement on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand… So then each of us will give an account of himself to God…But whoever has doubts is condemned if he eats, because the eating is not from faith. For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin." (Romans 14: 1, 4, 12, 22)
  • In all our beliefs we show love.
"And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing."   (1 Corinthians 13:2)

Our Leadership

Pastor Kevin McGuire Kevin has been married to Valerie, the love of his life, since 1982. They love and enjoy their three boys Drew, Zack, and Luke. Their family has been at Heritage for over twenty years. Kevin and Valerie have loved watching their boys play sports through their high school and college days. The holidays are always a special time for enjoying their close and extended family. Now currently an MSU fan because his son Zack plays for the baseball team, Kevin also loves all the local sports teams including the Tigers, Lions, Pistons, and Red Wings. He also fancies himself a compassionate Calvinist, loving all things Spurgeon. Kevin's passion is Jesus, the gospel and planting churches  around the globe.

The Gospel

God

God is the creator of the world. He made all people in his image (Gen 1.27) to love and worship him. God is holy, pure, and perfect (Lev 19.2; Josh 24.19; 1 Sam 2.2; Ps 77.13; ). The world exists for God's glory, and was good from the beginning (Gen 1-2).

Man

Although the world was good, it is now broken because people rebelled against God through sin (Gen 3; Ps 14; Rom 3.9-18; 5.12). Humanity is now broken, but we still bear the image of God. People need to be made right with God, cleansed from their guilt, and given hope and meaning.

Christ

Jesus is the only one who can make humanity right with with God, cleanse our guilt, and give us hope. He is God (John 1.1-3; Col 1.15-20; Heb 1.1-3), and he is a man (John 1.14; Phil 2.7-8; 1 John 1.1-4). Jesus is the only bridge between God and broken people (1 Tim 2.5). Christ is the only hope for a hurting people, and his gospel is told through the Bible.

Response

People must respond to the gospel of Jesus through faith. The gospel calls men and women to repent of their sin, and to trust in Christ alone to save them from sin, death, and the wrath of God. When they do, they are made right with God, cleansed from their guilt, and given the hope of eternal life, resurrection, and a new world.
